At Innovative Tub Solutions® , giving back to our community and working together to help those in need is at the forefront of our core values and objectives.
Last week, our team had the opportunity to volunteer at Feeding San Diego and took part in September’s Hunger Action Month® – the Feeding America® network’s nationwide awareness campaign designed to mobilize the public to take action on the issue of hunger. The campaign brings attention to the reality of hunger in the United States and promotes ways for individuals and organizations to get involved in the movement to help end hunger.
Hunger is an issue that is universal and closer than most people realize, affecting 1 in 6 Americans. Research is showing that problems associated with hunger exist in every county in the United States and affects virtually every age, gender, race, and cultural demographic.
This cause is especially important to our company President, Janis Stevens, who has been involved with feeding the hungry since 1990 when she was the Program Director for the Emergency Food Shelf Network in Minneapolis, MN and served on the board of the Second Harvest Food Bank. Janis has seen first-hand the enormous amount of work that is required to run a food assistance program, and understands how crucial volunteers are to a successful operation. In fact, 51% of all food programs rely entirely on volunteers.
As we sorted and packed vegetables to be delivered to school food programs all across San Diego County,
everyone was in great spirits and excited to be of service. Not only did we spend some quality time together, it
felt really good to be helping our community. We even managed to find time to take a few group pictures in between boxes of carrots.
The movement for a hunger-free America is only as strong as its supporters and volunteers.
